Open Mic Night at the Hudson Valley Writers' Center

On May 20, I'll be the featured instructor at HVWC's most popular monthly event: Open Mic Night. Everyone is welcome—no connection to HVWC necessary. Come share anything you've been working on. If you're my student—from the Center, private classes, Yale, or anywhere else—I would love for you to come and read! If you're not yet a student, come and introduce yourself!

Wednesday Night Fiction
This six-week workshop is offered at the beautiful Hudson Valley Writers' Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Wednesdays, April 20 to May 25.

Year of Your Book: Session III

This is the third six-week session in our yearlong course, with the goal of a complete novel draft by the end of 2016. Newcomers very welcome. If you're concerned about catching up, I'm happy to discuss your situation. Hudson Valley Writers' Center. Fridays, April 29 to June 3.

Yale Summer Writers' Conference

Register now for this wonderful summer conference. I'll be teaching a fiction workshop in Session I and a course in cross-genre fiction in Session II. In addition to your regular classes, you can work (and eat lunch!) with amazing visiting writers such as Amy Bloom, Michael Cunningham, and Claudia Rankine. June 4 to 19.

Year of Your Book: Summer Session

It's not to early to sign up for the summer segment of this yearlong course. You can choose individual weeks within the session to allow for vacations. Hudson Valley Writers' Center. Fridays, June 24 to July 19.

Coming up in the fall . . . I'm excited to be offering a 12-week fiction course at the Ferguson Public Library in Stamford, CT. Thanks to a generous grant to the library, this course will be free to students. September to December. Details as they become available.

Wednesday Night Fiction at Hudson Valley Writers' Center

If you're not ready to commit to Year of Your Book but you'd like to workshop your project, try this six-week class! Wednesday nights, starting April 20th.

This course is for writers at any stage of working on a piece of fiction who need a dose of encouragement, structure and feedback. In this class, you'll workshop excerpts from your work and do weekly in-class exercises geared towards helping you with different aspects of your project, including plot, character development and scene building. We'll also discuss daily writing practice, and how to keep up momentum when you're feeling stuck or out of time. You'll get optional exercises to do at home: short and focused, they'll help keep you moving forward every day, so you can make it to the finish line!

You can now sign up for Year of Your Book: Session II! Starts FRIDAY, MARCH 4 at the Hudson Valley Writers' Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY.

This course is for anyone, at any stage, who is committed to writing a draft of a novel by the end of 2016. Newcomers are very welcome in Session II!
